Contouring Where It Matters

What is a lower body lift?

A lower body lift is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and reshape the lower torso after significant weight loss or aging. It typically combines a tummy tuck, buttock, and outer thigh lift to improve contours around the waist, hips, and upper legs.

This surgery is often chosen by patients who have undergone significant weight loss, either through bariatric surgery or lifestyle changes, and are left with loose, deflated skin that no longer reflects the effort they’ve made. Others seek the procedure to correct skin laxity that comes with aging, pregnancy, or genetics. Dr. Healy will assess your skin elasticity, muscle tone, and overall health during your consultation to determine the most appropriate surgical approach.

What is the lower body lift procedure like?

Lower body lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia in our AAAASF-accredited surgical suite. The procedure can take several hours, depending on the complexity and the areas addressed.

Dr. Healy typically makes a circumferential incision around the lower torso, allowing him to remove excess skin, reposition tissues, and lift the lower body into a smoother, more youthful contour. The abdominal muscles may also be tightened (similar to a tummy tuck), and liposuction may be used to refine certain areas. Once reshaping is complete, the incisions are closed with layered sutures to support healing. Patients are closely monitored in recovery before returning home with detailed aftercare instructions and full support from our surgical team.

A Shape That Reflects  Your Work

What are the benefits of a lower body lift?

A lower body lift offers significant physical and emotional benefits. Patients often experience tighter, smoother skin across the lower torso, leading to improved body contours and a more proportionate figure. The procedure can also alleviate discomfort from skin irritation, chafing, and hygiene issues caused by excess skin. Many patients report a significant boost in self-confidence in their appearance and clothing. Lower body lift results are typically long-lasting, especially when patients maintain a stable weight and healthy lifestyle.

  • Have lost a significant amount of weight
  • Are at a stable, healthy weight and do not plan to lose much more
  • Have loose, sagging skin that causes discomfort or dissatisfaction
  • Are in good overall health and are a non-smoker

Lower Body Lift Recovery

Recovery from a lower body lift takes time, but it is manageable with proper preparation. Most patients take 2–3 weeks off work and are up and walking (gently) within a day. Compression garments are worn to support healing, and drainage tubes may be placed temporarily to reduce swelling.

Swelling, bruising, and tightness are common in the first few weeks. We’ll guide you through every phase of recovery with detailed instructions and complimentary lifetime follow-up care so you never feel alone.

A New Shape That  Stays With You

Lower Body Lift Results

You’ll see immediate improvement in body shape and skin tightness after surgery, with results continuing to become more refined over the next several months. As swelling resolves and tissues settle, you’ll notice a smoother, firmer, and more sculpted lower body that better matches your efforts and goals.

The results of a lower body lift are long-lasting, especially when supported by a stable weight and healthy habits. Scars are carefully placed and fade with time, often becoming much less noticeable within a year.

Lower Body Lift Frequently Asked Questions

It’s best to wait until your weight has been stable for 6 months to 1 year before considering a lower body lift. This helps ensure longer-lasting results and safer healing.

Yes. Lower body lifts are sometimes combined with breast procedures, arm lifts, or facial rejuvenation, depending on your health and goals. Dr. Healy will advise the safest plan.

Yes, but Dr. Healy places incisions strategically to be hidden in natural creases or under clothing. Scars fade over time and are worth the trade-off for improved contours.

Results can last many years, especially with a stable weight and healthy lifestyle. Skin will continue to age naturally, but most patients maintain their improved shape long-term.
